Reception

I’m currently exploring the Four Seasons Resort situated in Koh Samui. For me, the first impression begins at the reception area where guests receive a welcome. The journey from the entrance to the reception is truly remarkable; it’s hard to put into words just how beautiful and serene it is. With 60 villas and 11 residences nestled amidst hills offering breathtaking views of the sea this resort is truly awe-inspiring. To get around such a property with inclines they provide buggies for transportation – it’s like taking an exhilarating ride, on a luxury roller coaster.

Thailand is renowned worldwide for its biodiversity making it a beloved destination, for nature enthusiasts seeking a captivating experience of wellness.

Beach, Pool and CoCoRum

Four Seasons Koh Samui has its own private secluded beach. Located on this beach is a 40-metre infinity pool and the CoCoRum pool bar. You will find an abundance of lounges where you can relax savour delicious food and drinks and take a dip in the expansive infinity pool overlooking the shoreline. The beach offers plenty of activities from kayaking, paddleboarding, e-foil surfing, and football, to playing frisbee, etc.

CoCoRum also offers Asia’s first and only Rum Vault where you can sample rums from all over the world. The nearby Pla Pla restaurant also located on the beach was closed for renovations during our stay.

Serenity Pool Villa

Set amidst gardens the Serenity Pool Villa provides an idyllic retreat with its tranquil 15 square meter infinity pool. As you meander along the pathway leading to the villa you’ll be greeted by breathtaking vistas that set the stage for a stay at this family abode spanning 103 square meters (approximately 1,108 square feet). Perched on a hillside away from the beach it offers views of the Gulf of Thailand.

The wooden deck invites relaxation with loungers for your comfort. What particularly impressed me was having a refrigerator conveniently placed on the deck along, with coffee amenities. This thoughtful addition meant I didn’t have to enter and exit this villa inspired by island living.

It’s uncommon for hotels to provide dedicated curtains that effectively shield against sunlight strong winds or even rain showers—a feature that truly enhances guests’ comfort and privacy. However, these curtains would give guests the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while still ensuring a relaxing stay.

Embroidery Personalise Bed Linen

Adding an embroidered touch to your bed linen is a way to personalize it. During my stay, at Four Seasons Koh Samui I had my initials and a special motif embroidered on the pillows. Soon as I entered I noticed that the font used was welcoming and easy to read in both English and Thai languages.

The uniqueness of the bed linen truly made it stand out creating a sense of exclusivity. This attention to detail extended to the his and hers bathroom, where towels also featured my initials. The best part was that I could take them home, for use. Behind the bed, there was a window that allowed me to gaze into the gardens while comfortably sitting on the bed.

Window Views Of Gardens through Villa

One of the aspects of staying in a villa is being able to enjoy breathtaking views of lush gardens through its windows. As I looked out from my space I was greeted by an orchestra of colors and abundant greenery. These windows serve as gateways into a world of beauty allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature.

From the beauty of blooming flowers to the sway of majestic trees in the gentle breeze every view is like a masterpiece waiting to be admired. The vibrant colors and diverse textures create a sense of awe and inner peace providing the backdrop for relaxation and deep contemplation. Whether I choose to bask in the embrace of sunlight or simply gaze at the changing scenery the window views from the villa gardens offer an enchanting experience that truly captivates me. This is what I anticipate when staying in Thailand.

With its design, I can comfortably spend hours without any discomfort or distractions hindering my progress. The desk also offers storage space to keep all my essentials organized and conveniently within reach. Its robust construction ensures durability while its stylish and contemporary design adds a touch, to your workspace. The desk also served as the welcome area with coconuts, a fruit platter and some prepared snacks waiting for me.

Bathroom Stonewear

When it comes to designing bathrooms adding stoneware can bring a sophisticated touch to spaces, for both men and women. Stoneware is a choice for bathroom fixtures and accessories due to its beauty and durability. At the Four Seasons, I had the pleasure of experiencing an area with intricate mosaic tiles that offered countless possibilities for incorporating stoneware into the bathroom. The bathroom felt exceptionally clean with a design that exuded a vibe and stylish elegance thanks to the stoneware elements. What’s more, stoneware is easy to clean and maintain making it a practical choice for hotel bathrooms.

Beige Oversized Stoneware Bathtub

Speaking of luxury in bathrooms the oversized beige stoneware bathtub is truly something. It perfectly complements any bathroom setting— one like at the Four Seasons overlooking a pool and offering a sea view.

This bathtub was meticulously crafted from high-quality stoneware making it visually stunning while durable. Its spacious design provides room for a soak allowing you to fully unwind after a long day. The beige colour adds warmth and sophistication, to the bathroom decor creating an inviting atmosphere that harmonizes beautifully. As I indulged in Thailand’s wellness retreats again I couldn’t appreciate how smooth the surface of this stoneware tub felt.

Toilet And Rain Shower Separate with Garden Views

When it comes to hotel stays there’s nothing, like having a separate toilet and rain shower. It’s even better when you can enjoy the views of the garden landscape while indulging in a warm cascade of water. This unique feature provides convenience. Enhances the bathing experience allowing me to fully relax without any interruptions. Just imagine entering a well-designed bathroom that caters to all your personal hygiene needs. The highlight for me was being able to open the glass door in the rain shower area and soak up the view of the garden—it was truly unforgettable. I also loved how the wooden floors extended throughout the villa including the rain shower section.

Mood And Lighting

For a luxury getaway look no further than a stay at Four Seasons Villa. They pay attention to every detail in order to create the atmosphere for their guests. Soon as I stepped into my villa I was greeted with a warm and inviting ambience thanks to carefully curated mood lighting. Personally, I prefer an intimate setting, to something vibrant and energetic—and Four Seasons Villa definitely delivered on that front.

With the advanced lighting control systems available I could easily adjust the brightness and colour temperature to match my mood and preferences. I really liked using the ceiling fan as it provided a cooling effect allowing me to save energy by turning off the air conditioner. Moreover, the villa had curtains that created darkness for sleeping, although I must admit that the captivating nighttime garden views tempted me to leave them open.

Breakfast Four Seasons  – View and Food

I’m so glad I gave myself plenty of time to indulge in a breakfast experience, at Four Seasons. It was truly amazing to savour both the view and the delicious food. My day started with an exquisite buffet spread featuring a range of baked pastries, flavorful coffee and various healthy options. The selection of fruit juices seemed endless and refreshing. Course I made sure to try some Thai dishes too.

From fluffy toast drizzled with different syrups to perfectly cooked eggs, everything was meticulously prepared by talented chefs who aimed to satisfy my every craving. As I sat back and relaxed I enjoyed taking in the view of the surrounding landscape – whether it was the ocean or lush greenery. This original article was first published here: Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport – Take Out The Stress of Flying

Our two-week stay in Bangkok was approaching the end and our family would travel in different directions. I was going to the beautiful island of Koh Samui whereas my wife and children were off on a long trip to Melbourne Australia. We were flying on the same day but our flights could not be further apart. My flight was at 6:30 AM and my wife’s flight was at midnight. We knew about airport staffing issues and the long waiting lines to clear customs. Hence, we decided to stay at Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to take at least the stress out of Bangkok traffic and to spend the last few precious hours together.

Atrium Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

The huge atrium of the Novotel

The Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport started life at the same time as Bangkok’s new international airport was opened in September 2005. It is the closest and most luxurious airport within the vicinity of the airport, and it is literally a 3-minute courtesy bus ride from the hotel to the airport or a 5-minute walk via the air-conditioned underground walkway. It is huge with 612 guest rooms and suites and I was told it is the largest airport hotel of all the Accor family of hotels.

Reception & Lobby Area

The first thing you noticed when entering the hotel is how huge the lobby area is, it feels like an airport itself. There is a five-story atrium flanked on both sides by hotel rooms. Within the huge atrium, there are plenty of areas to sit and chill out, or you can enjoy a coffee and pastry from Le Gourmet which is like a boutique patisserie. I can recommend the mango cakes here.

Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

Try the amazing varieties of mango cakes available

What I liked was the section that showed the arrival and departure times of the flights and there was a dedicated section where you could weigh your luggage. It is these little things that take out the stress of travel. As our luggage was split as we went in different directions I did not know if I was within the allowance limit of my airline. Luckily I checked and I was way over the limit and I ordered some additional allowance online.

The Atrium connects the restaurant section, the business lounge, the Touchdown Sports Bar, and a shopping arcade for some last-minute shopping. The reception desk sits in the middle of the Atrium, and as a proper airport hotel, it offers 24-hour check-in and check-out. As we booked the business lounge our check-in was done at the lounge itself.

The business lounge offers a quiet place to work with some complimentary snacks and drinks available throughout the day. It is open from 07:00 to 22:00.

Superior Rooms

As a family, we opted for 2 superior rooms with interconnecting doors. What I like about the Novotel chain is that they are family-friendly with their policies and pricing, you get 50% of the additional room when you have children below the age of 16.

The way these hotel rooms are set up is around a courtyard. The hotel consists of two squares with a courtyard in the middle, and the two squares are connected by the Atrium. One courtyard houses the swimming pool area. Our room featured views over the oasis like swimming pool towards the airport. The rooms were large in size, had comfortable carpet and the always welcome elephant-style towels on the beds.

Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

As a welcome treat, there was a very colourful cold dish from Thailand on display on the desk. It is Khao Chae Chao Wang, a non-spicy dish from Southern Thailand.

A post shared by Arthur Van De Laak (@arthurvandelaak)

We had a double bedroom and a twin bedroom with interconnecting doors for our family. My daughters loved the welcome message on their beds, saying Hi with a bunch of flowers and an elephant made from towels. They were impressed with the internet speeds available for their tablets.

The interior room design is dark wood furniture with a red and blue colour scheme. The room comes with a dedicated desk that is overlooking the pool, a side table with a comfortable chair,  and a pod-style coffee and tea station. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows to choose from.

Bathroom

I like bathrooms where natural light is let in via a window to the bedroom, and for those that want privacy, they can always close the blinds.

Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

The large size bathroom has a dedicated rain shower, a bathtub with a view and a single sink mounted on a large granite top. Gone are the little bottles of shampoo, conditioner etc and these are no replaced by larger refillable bottles, I trend that I fully support.

Pool Area

I have to give 5 stars to the pool area of the Novotel, this feels like an oasis to relax in, with plenty of greenery and most importantly serenity. It is amazing how quiet it is when you know you are so close to one of the busiest airports in South East Asia. The rectangular pool which has a depth of 1.5m max features massage fountains in the form of fish. There are plenty of steps to sit on and just chill out in the pool. Importantly there are also plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. For those thirsty you can swim up to the pool bar, they do some excellent mango juices here.

Gym

I did not have the time to work out but did check out the gym. This is a full-scale gym with plenty of free weights and exercise machines. It is open 24 hours although the hours that there will be a trainer or staff to help you is only from 07:00 to 22:00.

Gym Novotel Bangkok

Buffet Dinner at The Square

The Novotel has various dinner options so you do not have to leave this hotel. You can choose to eat Thai food at Sala Thai, enjoy Chinese food at the Golden Village, feast on Japanese food at Kinsen, or enjoy Western international food at The Square.

The Square restaurant offers a buffet dinner as well as an a la carte menu. The buffet dinner has plenty of options to choose from Sushi, shellfish, seafood, plenty of meats, vegetables, a salad bar, cold cuts and cheeses, bread, desserts and cakes. All food was presented well and good in taste.

Breakfast at The Square

This hotel understands travellers and breakfast is already served from 03:00 AM in the morning. It is an extensive buffet of fresh foods, Western and Asian, complemented with fresh juices and coffees. I was ready to start my early flight to Ko Samui.

Vous Spa

My wife had a massage scheduled the next day, I had already left for Ko Samui. These are her words with regard to the Vous Spa.

Many of us suffer jetlag unnecessary when landing from a long-haul flight. I took a pre-departure massage, but for those arriving and needing to get over jetlag, I would definitely recommend the Signature Jetlag Massage.

Vous Spa offers an array of choices when it comes to wellness. The competent staff guided me to what they deemed appropriate for my stiff and aching body after all the trips I did in Bangkok.<

I was greeted by endless essential oil smells, combined with a delicious Bael tea. I was then taken into a private room welcomed by candlelight ambience. The coconut milk spa bath with flowers was the perfect welcome to wellness and relax my mind.  After 30 minutes of soaking my massage began with bespoke intense pressure to cure my aching muscles and back.

The therapist was excellent and very attentive to my needs.

Day Pass

Did you know that you don’t have to stay at the Novotel to get all the benefits of the pool, spa and gym? There is a day pass that lets you use these facilities which is great when you have some hours to kill between flights. Chill by the pool or do some additional workouts before your next flight, you can do this as an alternative to an airport lounge. There are 2 types of day passes you can see the details in the advert below.

02 DAY PASS

Conclusion

If you want a comfortable stay that takes the stress out of travel, be it a late-night arrival, early-morning departure or a long transit, the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel is the place to stay. It is the closest and most luxurious stay around the airport. The pool, spa, gym, food choices at the restaurants, plus the attentive staff, will make this stay a memorable one. Make sure to try some of the mango cakes when staying here.

Like many location-independent households, my family took the opportunity to relocate to Thailand in early 2021. The pandemic prompted us to reevaluate our options and Hua Hin was chosen as our new home base in order to finish homeschooling our kids whilst enjoying much needed outdoor time in an otherwise increasingly restricted world of travel and forced mandates.

Needless to say, I was after some undisturbed “me” time, in order to reconnect and be pampered, and I found Let’s Sea Hua Hin Al Fresco Resort to be exactly what I needed.

Location and Concept

Located on the Southern and more upmarket end of Hua Hin Beach, the Resort enjoys both sunrise and sunset opportunities and takes perfect advantage of its natural surrounds, breezy and green, an oasis of calm and traditional Thai hospitality. Beachside, nature, flair and clever design meet barefoot luxury.

The Lobby

I arrived at the impressive lobby where I was greeted by my holiday host who offered me welcome freshly pressed juices from the lobby bar and proceeded to explain my wellness itinerary. The rattan ceiling and oakwood centre column adds an element of sophistication, the colours offer a warm palate of understated elegance in décor and evoke romance, playfulness and refinement. I was energized and immediately wanted to explore the facilities.

The Moondeck Al Fresco Suite

My suite is one of only 40 built around a central lagoon-style swimming pool. The units were conceived with human space, privacy, and comfort in mind. I love the interior colours, they make me feel calm. Oakwood floors and fittings, travertine marble and light brown natural stone create an ambience of luxury and sophistication. I felt relaxed and my senses were nurtured. Built-in double cavity brick, they share no common walls ensuring my comfort. Indoors and outdoors blend as the floor to ceiling windows open to create a French balcony. I love my bathroom, with its soaring ceiling over the bathtub. An oakwood staircase takes me to my very own private rooftop chillout area.

Al Fresco Dining

Let’s Sea Hua Hin’s Beach Restaurant was founded almost 20 years ago by a small group of savvy 20 somethings, one thing was clear to them: the food had to taste just like the one from their parents’ kitchen. Not only have they lived up to their dream, but they have managed to create an exquisite ambience with soaring ceilings, extensive use of wooden finishes, open spaces that let nature merge with design and soft golden lighting.

The sea breeze and scent filled the air as we sampled our mocktails made with fresh local fruit. I particularly enjoyed the strawberry daiquiri and the passionfruit mojito. Entrée was traditional leaf-wrapped salad bites (Meang Kana) with its array of perfectly-balanced flavours: hot, sour, salty and sweet.

Let's Sea Hua Hin Al Fresco Resort Thailand

The main dish was melt-off the bone spare ribs with Hua Hin pineapple. For dessert, my guests and I moved to the outdoor deck area where time stood still as the starry night above and the softly lapping waves below created a captivating moment. Passionfruit gelato and fresh fruit sealed the meal.

Gaia Spa

My spa time is where I reconnect with myself. I was happy to find Gaia spa to be located on the rooftop just above the lobby, a glass polygon structure surrounded by exotic gardens. The treatment included a soothing foot bath with coconut milk, fresh slices of lime and essential oils, followed by a rosehip all body scrub and a full body massage.

I particularly enjoyed how the staff created my experience with my input. I picked cedarwood, lavender and neroli to transport me to a world of deep relaxation and rejuvenation. Warm tea was served to me at the end of my visit which invigorated me and set me up for the day.

Thai Tea Time

An afternoon with friends by the beach turned into High Tea Thai style. The staff were so attentive, ensuring my friends and I had drinks as they set up the ultra-comfortable sunchairs for us, then swiftly left, but not before handing us a wooden frog artefact so we could call on them if needed. Little details like this one dotted my stay, and I must admit I was impressed with how meticulous and graceful all members of staff were in ensuring the highest level of comfort and service for me and my guests during my stay, true savoir-faire all round.

Let's Sea Hua Hin Al Fresco Resort Thailand

Tea time was a veritable sumptuous feast of both savoury and sweet selections carefully balanced on glass platters evoking an underwater seascape. The choices were undeniably Thai, paying homage to tradition without compromising on world-class delivery.

After dinner, I enjoyed my own private chillout moment at my rooftop terrace. I poured myself a glass of Veuve Clicquot and gazed at the beautiful starry night from my al fresco bubble bath.

Sunrise Breakfast

I absolutely loved the Al Fresco Beachfront Bar for the all-inclusive breakfast. The P³ fresh fruit juice was one of my favourites: pineapple, parsley and passionfruit, they also featured guava and lychee and mint amongst others. The coffee is brewed fresh and is sourced from Northern Thailand. I ordered an almond mocha frappe and classic breakfast dishes prepared with prawns, eggs and rice like the crab meat omelet with lobster bisque.

Let's Sea Hua Hin Al Fresco Resort Thailand

Thai cuisine at its finest served at my table by the sea. I finished off with perfectly cooked Belgian waffles. The fishermen out at sea, the early sun, the waves at my feet, space and abundant natural beauty, it is easy to understand why Let’s Sea Hua Hin Al Fresco Resort ticks all the boxes for discerning couples looking for a romantic and secluded getaway.

As I checked out I already looked forward to coming back to Let’s Sea, for some pampering time on my own or a romantic weekend with my husband. The perfect place to create memories of high tea by the sea with family and friends in this our new home for the next few years. You must check it out.

Conclusion

Attention to detail, gorgeous presentation, world-class spa treatments and outstanding catering and ambience. Let’s Sea Al Fresco Resort Hua Hin is on my top list of Hua Hin hotels for romantic getaways.

Travellers of all ages are embracing transformative experiences as the new luxury, wanting each trip to have more impact than the last.

Wellness opportunities have become as much a reason to travel as fabulous food, multigenerational travel is most definitely in: and a luxury niche luxury jungle tour is becoming more popular.

Hideout Digital Detox

There’s magic at work here in Thailand at The Hideout on a remote island called Koh Yao Noi. The Hideout floats all the way up to the core of the island. Where I could sleep amongst emerald green, hills, enveloped by fragrant trees amid native bushland.

Where the only sounds I heard were the music of the jungle and sea. And the only fear I had was missing out on my digital world access. Which was the biggest challenge for the first 24hours.  I can’t access my e-mails let alone my social media!. More so, what was I going to do without electricity, let alone no hot water?

What you won’t find here are TVs, radios, buzzing fans, or noisy machinery of any kind . The Hideout is proudly electricity-free, aside from the solar-filtered infinity pool at the heart of the resort.

When I climbed the stairs to the main room, it can only be described as an eco- friendly sustainable lifestyle paradise. With it’ thatched roof, rich wooden floors, and furnishings, a plush very comfortable large king-sized bed with a mosquito net. The mosquito net is the only material between me and an unparalleled open-air panorama view of Koh Yao’s jungle, bay, and nearby islands.

I was wondering what was awaiting me regarding hidden creatures out there in this open-air luxury jungle?

Treehouse Suites Eco-Friendly Living

The Hideout features just 5 stunning open-air ‘treehouse suites’ on an undeveloped jungle hillside, designed from inception with complete ‘immersion’ in mind. I found this challenging at night as I could not ponder if and what would end up in my bed.? But nothing came into my bed,  just remote sounds of nature it was raining and some animal noise which was wonderful.

The villas and resort are crafted entirely by local artisans with materials from the island, with a vision to connect guests with the raw beauty and peace of the surroundings.

The Hideout Jungle Thailand - Koh Yao Noi Digital Detox

When I opened the entrance gate to my private treehouse, I was greeted by a tasteful open-air massive bathroom level nestled in the treetops. Overall the treehouse is built of a very high standard which I was not expecting. It is very warm here so the cool-water tub and cool rain-shower, with vanity sinks and WC. Takes a little getting use too.

It is very refreshing both day and night to shower with cold water. Overall all the products here offer a host of complimentary organic and handmade toiletries, with a sustainable message at the core of this retreat.

The Hideout Jungle Thailand - Koh Yao Noi Digital Detox

The Hideout Jungle Thailand - Koh Yao Noi Digital Detox

At The Hideout, they are all about the  belief that the symphony of jungle wildlife, the song of wind in the trees and the whispers of waves against our island shores are the best medicine for your senses!

The overall experience is wonderful. There is nothing more intoxicating than to go to sleep and wake up to the sounds of nature. To be honest.

I could access the internet with my sim, I could have all my computers and phones charged as I have travel battery access. But the truth be had, after a few hours I shut it all off and just soaked up this rare wellness experience.

It was the perfect time to look back at what new and exciting adventures I had conquered during 2019.

Jungle Infinity Pool

Lovely pool area with unobtrusive views of Koh Ya Noi. This is very relaxing to soak up life itself. The sitting lounge areas with great views are confortable and where I could eat and drink.  The food and beverages are all locally produced and the food is yummy!

Empowering Women

The Hideout funds a charity in where local women are taught, encouraged and inspired to put themselves out there regarding education and small businesses. Part of The Hideout money goes to these women who need an education. So they can lead and live an independent life.  On most occasions these women are single mothers. I really loved this idea and support.

The Hideout Jungle Thailand - Koh Yao Noi Digital Detox

Access To The Hideout

The road to The Hideout is challenging and I would only ride a motorbike here if you are confident. When it is wet I certainly would think twice about it.  Otherwise, pick up and drop off facilities are available and I would recommend this. I did love the messages along the way to encourage me I was riding on the right road to my remote oasis. The build-up was fun.

A Sustainable Off-Grid Jungle Gem! 2020 is all about us as travelers being much more aware of the climate crises we are facing globally. The Hideout is one place where I could choose to stay and become aware of how little I need regarding global travel.

The Hideout Jungle Thailand - Koh Yao Noi Digital Detox The Hideout Jungle Thailand - Koh Yao Noi Digital Detox

Conclusion

With wellness tourism worth $932billion annually, it’s hardly surprising that health retreats are more sophisticated and diverse in offerings than ever. The Hideout certainly stands alone with it comes to spiritual and holistic healing!

The month of December is a fabulous time to visit Bangkok a city where you can combine festive shopping, spa treatments and eating experiences. When I entered the Sofitel I was greeted by a very unique massive Christmas tree. Throughout Bangkok, the Christmas Ambiance and decorations are one of the best I have seen in Asia. The hotels also capture the festive season in their own unique way.

The reception is a large open space with plenty of seating options and locations to chill. Check-in was swift and professional and came with the complimentary welcome drink.

Wine Bar

Also on the ground floor is the recently opened wine bar and shop. It reminded me of a wine tasting setting back in France. The idea is that any guests can sample wines from varies locations around the globe, with every week a different location. Today I was conveniently tasting 5 different wines from France. Their sommelier or wine steward had a fabulous knowledge of the wines being served and for those that need to learn the basic art form of drinking the wines, this is a perfect location to do so. I liked that I could also purchase the wine and either take it to the L ‘appart restaurant at no corkage cost or to my room. For those residing here in Bangkok, you could also take it to your flat. This service is not very common in Bangkok and is a new lifestyle trend for 2018. Wines vary in price and I thought considering where I am sitting, the prices were competitive (starting at €20-25) and the choices were good.

Luxury Room

My hotel room class was the Luxury Room which had designer carpets inspired by Thailand’s rich flora and fauna. The room overlooked the Sukhumvit road and I liked how there was a chaise lounge near the window. This was a fabulous way to capture the city both day and night especially with a wine purchased from the in-house wine bar. The bed was massive and very cosy, there were lots of pillows and nice fresh linen for a comfortable sleep. The dedicated working desk was great to work on, I liked how you could roll it away and have more room space as well.

I love the welcome platter.

Bathroom

The bathroom had a dedicated shower, separate toilet and bath. It was a very big bathroom and I am a big fan where there is clear glass and I am able to look out to the rest of the room while I am having a bath with the  L’Occitane products supplied by the hotel.

Breakfast

Breakfast was of a high standard here at Sofitel and the choices of both French and Asian cuisines were endless. The presentation was excellent, and what stood out for me was the fruit juice machine. The options in where I could create my own personal juice was a fun experience. The bagel section was colourful and the meat section with fabulous pork with wine juice was wonderful to start the day.

Hidden at the other side of the buffet bar was the Fromagerie, the dedicated cheese bar. This climate-controlled room displayed various cheeses from around the world in a beautiful way. This was the first one I have seen in my life. Overall I can say that the breakfast buffet was one of the best breakfast experiences I have had in Asia in 2017.

Swimming Pool

I am a big fan of rooftop swimming pools and on this occasion the views from the 9th floor over the city of Bangkok were great. The hotel has done a great job in creating an area of tranquillity which is hard in a noisy city like Bangkok. The lounges were very comfortable and the pool was great to do some laps. I loved the area where I could sit down and have a water massage overlooking the pool area and the city. The same floor also has a Spa treatment area where L’Occitane products are used. I must say I liked the smell of walking past the Spa on my way to and from the swimming pool, it was very inviting.

Conclusion

This is a lovely hotel, with a high standard of service and plenty of French cuisine options. I could also see many locals and outside guests entering, as the hotel caters for both inside and outside guests and the overall feel-good factor here is delightful. The pool area is tranquil, the hotel rooms are plush, the breakfast is fantastic, the wine bar is great, and to top it off the hotel has also one of the best rooftop bars and restaurants in Bangkok in L’Appart. More of that in a separate review. Combine this with an unbeatable location next to Terminal 21 shopping centre and plenty of transport options, and this hotel should be on top of your list for staying in Bangkok.

I am travelling with my family throughout South East Asia for several months and over the course of time, I am starting to miss some of my home comforts. I am referring to space, modern kitchens and doors that allow me to have some privacy. So it is nice to have experienced the Sathorn Vista Bangkok Marriott Executive Apartments, which are five-star luxury apartments situated in the heart of Bangkok’s business district.

Fully Serviced Suites

These executive apartments offer apartment-style living combined with the full services you can expect at a hotel. Many people staying here are working or visiting Bangkok for a long stay, which can be a few weeks all the way to years. In fact, I joined the long term residence Christmas party and found that the longest staying guest was there for more than 3 years. You can also stay for one or two days as I did. Sathorn Vista offers travellers services like grocery shopping, daily upkeep and upon request an array of luxurious services specific for the individual.

When I entered the reception area I was greeted by a simple, clean open-spaced modern room. There is a residents lounge in where long-stay clients can meet up or if I wanted to have a business meeting or catch up with friends, this was the perfect environment to do so. In the morning this room services breakfast for long term residents only.

Two-Bedroom Suite

I stayed at a two-bedroom luxury suite with two bathrooms overlooking the heart of Bangkok. This view is really brilliant to watch all the traffic and understand the electric atmosphere this city has to offer. The kitchen offers top appliances and is well supplied for cooking and entertaining guests if I chose too. The granite service is of high quality and it has a microwave oven and a dishwasher which is fantastic. Behind closed wooden doors, there is a washing machine and dryer of a high standard which is very useful too. This was followed by a vacuum cleaner if I was up for cleaning, but once again the hotel offers a daily cleaning service.

The spacious lounge and furnishing are why my stay was very comfortable. There was a dedicated working desk alongside a dining table with very comfortable seating options. Therefore the space overall is functional, practical and spacious. The huge TV which is one of three allocated in the apartment was a warm welcoming to catch up on some of my favourite TV series.

Bedrooms

The bedrooms are spacious and have lots of natural light. The bed is big and the bed linen is lovely to sleep in with plenty of pillows to make my sleep a very cosy one. In the master bedroom, there was an ensuite which was large and I loved how my bath was overlooking the city. It’s wonderful at night to soak up some city lights and actions without the noise. There was another dedicated working desk here too once again making my stay very practical.

The second bedroom which has a queen-size bed was also very cosy and has a second bathroom which is separate. This is very good for those outside guests wanting to join me. In the corridor, there is also a separate large extra storage room for my luggage and anything I wanted to tuck away including iron and an iron board.

The suites all have hard enduring wooden flooring which is well maintained and give an overall lovely ambience. The artwork throughout the suites and the hotel is modern and has a feeling of being away from home.

MOMO Cafe

Just a stone throw away within the building is a cafe called MOMO, which has a variety of food for all the guests. This is where breakfast is served and it is a great way to get the day started. For me, that starts with a coffee and in Thailand, that means an iced latte, which the cafe does to perfection. Besides coffee, there are a lot of beverage options to choose from including plenty of fresh juices. The food is fresh and well presented which reminds me that I am actually in a hotel without knowing it.

Dinner

I also dined at the MO MO Cafe which was a seafood buffet which runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there were plenty of food options which catered for all sorts of pallets including non-seafood. The atmosphere was wonderful and the staff made us feel like family. MOMO was packed and fully booked so make sure you reserve.

Facilities

On the 5th floor, there is a huge outside pool, jacuzzi and a smaller kids pool. Do not get turned of by the green colour as it is the tiles that are green. For refreshments, there is a bar and for the gym fanatics, there is a fully equipped gym and sauna. For smaller kids, there is also a kids club.

Conclusion

The Marriott Executive Apartments is located in a fabulous street which offers plenty of wining and dining around. Just next to these apartments is the Australian embassy and therefore the street also offers, plenty of cafe opportunities and very funky eating places to cater to the expat community. There are plenty of places to get your hair done as well as Spa treatments and the prices vary. The street has a great atmosphere at night and there is also a market where fresh produce is sold daily. If you choose not to cook, the food here is endless.

I met a lot of long-stay clients here who speak very highly of the service, staff and these luxury apartments. Thanks for making us feel welcome and we had a great stay.

Today I am staying at the Mövenpick Hotel Sukhumvit 15 Bangkok, which offers 297 comfortably appointed rooms and suites, with both garden courtyard and city views.

Bangkok, is one of the most amazing Asian cities in the world for shopping, eating, spa treatments and unique luxury hotel stays. Whilst freezing back in Europe, I could leave the snow and head to Bangkok in where this time of the year it is not too hot let alone humid. It’s Christmas time and the hotels and shopping centres put on some of the most spectacular Christmas decorations. Therefore I love this time of the year and I love to experience the endless fashion diverse fashion which out here it can range from a variety of international brands as well as local designers.

One of the shopping centres to go to is Terminal 21 which is themed around an airport with every floor a different world destination. The Mövenpick Hotel Sukhumvit 15 is literally around the corner from here. There is a complimentary shuttle tuk-tuk that goes there every 30 minutes and takes about 5 minutes. The BTS Asok station is literally opposite Terminal 21 and gives you easy access to the rest of Bangkok. One-stop on the line gives access to the latest in shopping centre trends called EmQuartier, where endless European luxury purchases can be made. So the Mövenpick is located well to explore Bangkok.

Reception

Mövenpick took over this hotel about two years ago and the interior design is very modern and open and coming into the entrance it has a lovely setting and feel to it. The white exterior and combination of art deco inspired furniture is why my stay was so unique. I loved where I could sit in the library area and work whilst guests were checking in and out. The hotel has two U shaped buildings facing each other with a lovely courtyard in the centre of it, in the middle of it all is a lovely Lelawadee tree.

Lelawadee Restaurant

The restaurant takes its name from the tree planted in the centre of the hotel. In the morning buffet breakfast is served here and for lunch and dinner, it is an a la carte restaurant. With regards to food, the Lelawadee restaurant serves both authentic Thai cuisine, European and Asian favourites. I had dinner here and the Phad Thai served here was one of the best I’ve tasted here in Bangkok. I had a lovely steak tartare which was well presented with some lovely toasted bread. The prices are competitive and the food overall was delicious.

Breakfast

For breakfast, the international buffet was served here, with endless choices of fresh food and bread. The coffee was excellent and so were the juices. What I liked was the dedicated kid’s section with food choices for them placed on a lower table so they could help themselves.

Chocolate Hour

As a Swiss company, Mövenpick is famous for its chocolates and ice cream, which is the heritage. Every day at 4 pm there is chocolate time for all the in-house guests and I could come and enjoy some of so of these wonderful delights. They all tasted so good and best of all I could go back for as much as I liked. As I was there during the Christmas period it felt extra special and I would definitely recommend this hotel to enjoy some of the Swiss delights.

Business Lounge

I had access to the business lounge and every day there was a wide variety of freshly made food available. There were also some complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to compliment the food, and it was a nice environment to meet other guests. The seating was comfortable and the staff were very helpful too.

Cocktails

I experienced the Lobby bar at night for the extensive cocktail menu. This had to be one of the top creative cocktails I have experienced for 2017. The barman, who had extensive experience working at Bangkok airport, was very passionate about creating his own cocktails. On one cocktail he used Swiss chocolate as one of the core ingredients, it took him almost 15 minutes to prepare the dessert-like cocktail and it tasted divine.

Most of the cocktails here were exclusive and unique to Mövenpick only and I would highly recommend making an effort and try some, even if you are not staying here.

It’s what I now define as Swiss bliss experience.

Deluxe Rooms

I and my children stayed in two deluxe rooms which had interconnecting doors between them. Each room offered a spacious 32 square meter living space. The rooms were located on the 5th floor and had lovely views of the inner courtyard. These rooms were nice and quiet which in a hectic city like Bangkok is a bonus. The rooms were lovely and cosy and the beds were very comfortable, the white linen was clean and crisp and the bed was huge. The dedicated desk was a good working space for me to catch on some work. Rooftop Pool

On the 8th floor is the rooftop pool, garden and outdoor bar. This area is great to enjoy some of the Bangkok skylines that are all around. The swimming pool is long and perfect for doing some laps, there is also a smaller pool at 50cm depth which is perfect for smaller children. There are plenty of outside lounge chairs around the pool to soak up the sun.

Conclusion

The cocktail experience was one of the best I have had here in Asia. The attention to detail and passion from the staff at the Mövenpick Sukhumvit 15 Hotel is why it was a memorable stay for me. The hotel rooftop setting was lovely and had an open feel to a great city. The access to other urban attractions is why it is a perfect hotel that appealed to me as a base and to experience a different side of Bangkok.

I have reviewed over 140 hotels around the globe in the last 2 years and what I loved about this job is the people you meet. On this occasion, a staff member worked here due to being inspired by his father who worked for the Mövenpick for over 40 years. In his own words, the way Mövenpick treated his dad is why he now works for the company. As a child, he experienced Mövenpick around the globe and wanted to continue the legacy of working in such a diverse company.

Marriott Executive Apartments Sukhumvit Park Bangkok is located in Soi 24 an alley of the main Sukhumvit road. It is located very close to two luxury shopping malls, the Emporium and the new EmQuartier mall on the opposite. There is a complimentary drop-off and pick up from the Marriott every thirty minutes that stops at the Emporium.

I was impressed with the EmQuatier which houses a whopping 400 fashion labels in total and is spread out over 4,000 square metres of floor space. Also in the Em Quartier, there is the Helix Quarter, a dining extravaganza with over 40 restaurants and an impressive rooftop garden with 100-metre long rain forest. The views of Bangkok from here were brilliant.

Reception

In entering the Marriott the first impressions were like entering a luxury hotel with the five-star service which was fabulous. The reception area is spotless and had a warm feel to it and there was plenty of space to check-in and for children to run around whilst sorting myself out. The lobby area was grand with an Atrium and plenty of sofas and chairs to chill out on. The second floor of the Atrium connects to a total of 6 meeting rooms. Also on the ground floor is the Bistro M which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and the M2 go for coffees, snacks and take away items.

Pool & Fitness Area

As I was waiting for my room to get ready I headed to the 3rd floor where the outdoor pool and fitness centre were located. The fitness centre is large and popular with the long term guest, it has all the latest technology equipment to keep guests fit. Outside there is a 1.2 meter deep and 25-meter long outdoor pool perfect for doing laps whilst enjoying views of Bangkok. There is also a smaller 50 cm deep pool which is perfect for the little ones. There are plenty of sun loungers around the pool area not to have to fight over it and there is also a Jacuzzi, which unfortunately was not heated. Bar on 3 offers all sorts of drinks and has a small food menu as well. The 3rd floor also has a pool table, a kids playroom and houses the Thada Heritage Spa.

If you thought this was all that the Marriott Executive apartments had to offer, there are more sports options in a separate building above the parking garage. There is an indoor golf simulator as well as an outdoor golf practice area, one tennis court, one badminton court, one squash court and one dance practice area. Plenty of options to keep guests entertained and fit.

Two-Bedroom Apartment

I stayed at the two-bedroom apartment which has a living room, a twin bedroom with two queen size beds, a super king-size bedroom and an open plan living room with kitchen, lounge area and dining area. What amazed me immediately is the huge size of the rooms, yes the total space is 130m2.

Open Plan Kitchen Lounge Area

The kitchen dining area is a fabulous area for entertaining and the feel-good factor here is excellent. The fully stocked kitchen is of a high standard and the cutlery, plates, cups knives etc are excellent quality. I am a big fan of granite kitchen worktops as they are easy to keep clean and have a posh feel to it. The splashback is a nice modern glass which is easy to keep clean. The cooking facilities are perfect.

The lounge area has also a dining table for four, a leather corner sofa, flat-screen TV and desk area. As I was with my family this area had ample of space to chill, work and play. On either side of the lounge is a bedroom with solid wood doors and when closed so the sound goes. I could be loud and not wake anyone up whilst working early in the morning.

Next to the entrance is plenty of floor to ceiling storage with one of the cupboards housing a washing machine, dryer and ironing board. This room caters for long term guests as there is plenty of storage everywhere, more on that later.

My huge king-size room had a lovely wooden floor and the space was almost endless. The view overlooking the city was wonderful and I loved the big windows. The 2nd bathroom attached to the second bedroom is a mirror copy, so my children were equally spoiled. What I liked when entering the bathroom was the huge amount of storage available again with three floor-to-ceiling double door wardrobes available in each bedroom. This hotel can cater long term guest, in fact, I spoke to some of them that have stayed already for two years in a row.

The location is excellent and combine this with a 5-star service and it is easy to see why the occupancy rate is high throughout the year. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much to ask. It was my daughter’s birthday and the staff went out of their way to choose a cake and sing to her. It was for her home being away from home and she felt like they were her family too. Bangkok is a vibrant city that has so much to offer regarding, shopping, eating and partying. It is a city that consumes me with its endless entertainment and for this reason, I decided to stay at Cape House serviced apartments. With so much to take in right in the heart of Bangkok, I wanted space and a place I could do my own cooking, some washing and reflect on 2017 and what I have achieved.

For me as a business client, the Cape House Bangkok is in a great location. The Cape House serviced apartments are located right in the heart of the Ploenchit neighbourhood on the vibrant Soi Langsuan, which has restaurants and street food stalls. Cape House provides easy access to Bangkok’s major business, entertainment and shopping districts as well as several embassies and beautiful public parks like Lumpini Park.

A three-minute walk got me to the Chidlom BTS station from where the public transport network awaits. It is also the start of the R Walk where there is a large raised and covered walkway that connects all the major shopping centres.

Reception

In entering the reception area there is a simplicity and efficient atmosphere that greets me. Which makes perfect sense as most customers are here on business and want to embrace their own private den at their own pace. On the ground floor is also the restaurant the Italian Bistro on 43 which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The dining area has an Italian bistro feel to it, with its split-level, balcony and stalls configuration it makes dining relaxed and easy to chat with people.

What I liked about the Cape house that it also had an affordable and extensive room dining service. It allowed me to stay in the hotel in the evening when I did not feel like going out for dinner.

Breakfast

Breakfast was a buffet, which had enough variety on offer. With fresh tea and coffee and plenty of international cuisines to choose by it was enough to get me started for the day. My favourite food was the huge muffin that could be eaten by two people, unfortunate they were so good I could not share them. Part of the buffet was an egg station, where eggs were served made to order.

Executive Lounge And Swimming Pool

I loved the decor of the executive lounge on the 5th floor which was white and bright and offered views over the city of Bangkok. It was the perfect place to meet other guests or do some business talk. There was a small buffet on offer which changed throughout the day and the lounge was perfect for an afternoon tea. The lounge felt classy and clean and the interior design reminded me of France. There were plenty of newspapers and magazines on offer to read in a quiet and comfortable environment.

Also here the standard was high and once again the views overlooking the city were perfect making it a lovely place to wine and dine either during the day or in the evening. The Jacuzzi was large and super warm and I loved being in it after a hard day of work and shopping. The swimming pool was big enough to do laps and deep enough to tread water. The gym also had enough equipment to use and work off some weight.

The suite offered every convenience necessary for a comfortable stay. It was clean, cosy and spacious. I liked how the small kitchenette included a washing machine, microwave oven, fridge and stove. If I really wanted to cook it was possible.

The bathroom offered a separate shower and bath and was big enough to cater to two people. The bedroom was spotless and had a great feel to it. The room even though in the centre of Bangkok, was quiet and I slept very well. The room came with plenty of storage place for long stay clients, and for me, as I was shopping, I had plenty of extra wardrobe space to store my latest purchases.

Conclusion

Cape House offers luxury serviced apartments consisting of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites, all under hotel-style service. It’s a place where you can feel home away from home with the extra bells and whistles. In my observation, there were mainly long term guests and business clients. It is a place where business meetings can be held and also a place to chill after a hard day’s work. Guests are well looked after and are served well. There are plenty of places nearby to eat, shop till you drop and go out partying as well. I recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a bit more than a hotel room and wants a place centrally located in Bangkok.

Amari Watergate Bangkok is located in the Pathumwan neighbourhood in Bangkok. It is right in the heart of the famous shopping malls of Bangkok, like the Platinum Fashion Mall, Central World and Siam Paragon to name a few. Pathumwan is a great choice for travellers interested in fashion, shopping and indulging in amazing food. The hotel is just opposite Platinum Fashion Mall, which is a perfect way to explore fashion here in Bangkok. For public transportation, just 700 metres walk is Ratchaprarop metro, which gives you easy access to other parts of Bangkok and also the express train which goes all the way to the airport.

I just landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is about 25 km from the property, as I had a lot of luggage I took a large taxi with the Grab app. I was exhausted after a 12 hour flight from London and I was looking forward for some 5 star hotel pampering. From the moment I drove up into the circular drive and entering a very spacious reception area, there was an overwhelming feel-good factor. The reception area is spacious, modern and has a very relaxing feel to it. There are many seating areas to explore and take in the modern architecture around. I was jet-lagged later in the evening and wide awake, so I came down to have a nice iced coffee and soak up the hotels atmosphere. Even at 1 AM in the morning there was a nice holiday vibe happening.

The other facilities which are of a high standard are the hot tub, sauna, fitness centre and squash courts. There were dedicated fitness instructors that I could book to get a good work out. The seating area around the pool and the bar was excellent and once again the atmosphere was relaxing. I noticed that many people were booking themselves into Cool Breeze Spa, including myself.

The treatment room was large and smelt wonderful and the overall experience was excellent. It is the perfect jet-lag release and I highly recommend anyone to book in a treatment here.

Corner Suite

I stayed at the corner suite on the 26th floor with great views over the Siam area of Bangkok. The corner suite is a generous 74 m² and had a lounge area as well as a huge bedroom with lots of storage to hang your clothes. Both areas have a huge TV with plenty of international channels. If you are choosing to stay with a third person a roll away bed will be provided. The bedroom had a large chaise lounge next to the window which is perfect for soaking up the city’s skyline, I just loved sitting here and watching hectic Bangkok.

Crowne Plaza Bangkok Lumpini Park is a luxury hotel in the heart of Silom, Bangkok’s business district and very close to Lumpini Park. It is only a couple of minutes walk to both Silom and Sala Deang stations, which means within two stops I can be in the central shopping district of Bangkok. The Crowne Plaza is also within a 10-minute walking distance of the famous Patpong night market in Bangkok. This location makes this hotel well suited for both business and leisure travellers. What is a bit unusual is that the hotel starts on the 23rd floor, it means that all rooms have impressive views over Bangkok. At the ground floor, there is staff to help you with your luggage and there is also a small coffee shop to grab some last-minute things for when you leave the hotel.

Reception Area

The reception area was impressive as it had a huge atrium. The decor was classy and looked very oriental in its design. As you can expect in the land of smiles, my welcome was friendly and relaxed. The bathroom was huge as well. It had a separate shower and bath and a double sink with a large mirror area. What I love also was the Japanese toilet with heated seats, I wish I would see these more in Europe.

Swimming Pool And Gym

A 5 star hotel in a hot country like Thailand is nothing without an outdoor swimming pool. The Crowne Plaza rooftop pool offers amazing views over Bangkok both day and night. It had plenty of lounges to chill out on there was also a heated whirlpool. For those that want to work out the gym is right next to pool area and there is also a Spa area to get some massage treatments that Thailand is famous for.

Conclusion

The Crowne Plaza is only a stone’s throw away from Lumpini Park and is connected very well via public transport. It is very central in Bangkok and is in a wonderful area to capture how the locals live and go about their lives. There is a shopping centre close by if you choose to stay locally. The rooms and facilities are modern and there is plenty of good in house food options for those that want to. The club lounge is an oasis of calm in a hectic city like Bangkok, and if you need time to relax and unwind this should be used. The staff looked after me well and the hotel had a great atmosphere to it. Thanks for a fabulous stay.

Chiang Mai International Airport is 5 km away. For those looking for a shopping adventure then close to the hotel is Wat Ket. Which is a great choice for travellers interested in shoppingmarkets and food.

The concept of this hotel is all about the affordable luxury stay. Many clients also come from Bangkok to experience this hotel. From the outside, I could instantly see that the hotel is all about modern contemporary style. As I entered I instantly was impressed with the simplicity of the hotel. The design is enticing as the area itself. Its dark interior is unusual for Chiang Mai but it works very well. There was plenty of spots I could hide away and relax during my stay here.

Reception

The reception area was simple but beautiful and a great way to be greeted by the hotel staff. There is a 24-hour front desk at the property. The staff are very laid back but attentive at the same time.

The hotel has many interesting interior designs as well as furniture. I particularly noticed many guests taking shots of themselves in the see-through windows which actually looked like picture frames. The buttons inspired windows were also quirky but illustrated the relaxed and fun side of the hotel.

Swimming Pool and Garden

The swimming pool is situated on the second level of the hotel which is very rare for Thailand and why I thought this was rare and very cool indeed. The pool is not deep and therefore available to all guests. It also overlooks a very simple garden which is right next to the river. There is plenty of grass to run, relax and soak up Chiang Mai in a quiet secluded area.

Deluxe Room

I stayed in a deluxe room overlooking the garden as well as the swimming pool. I was very impressed with the standard of the room. The balcony access was a nice touch too for a nice and relaxing stay. The room had plenty of storage and I loved the bed head with the rabbit sitting above me. The bed was big and comfortable and had many pillows which I liked. There was plenty of lighting and the room was big.

The bathroom was so cute and I loved the double marble sinks. This bathroom was very clever in design and the shower and tiny bathtub were so fun to be able to use. I liked how the shutter doors opened out to the balcony a nice indoor-outdoor feel.

The shower was very powerful. The tiling and overall atmosphere of the bathroom gave it a real feel-good factor. Again I liked how I could look out to the garden and be reminded of how beautiful Thailand is.

The separate toilet was well received and overall the bathroom was a clever layout of space and design.  Every room at this hotel is air-conditioned and features a flat-screen TV.

Conclusion

The Hotel des Artists Ping Silhouette concept in where affordable luxury is available to all is why it was and will be continuously booked out. It is also why may locals come here to eat and and stay too. Chiang Mai is a popular city all year round and to have a concept here such as this is great. The Hotel des Artists Ping Silhouette’s atmosphere is relaxed, fun and has a real modern feel to it. It is certainly worthwhile staying here and experience a different luxury stay.

Na Nirand is a new luxury boutique hotel, tucked away in the heart of Chiang Mai Thailand. This perfect secluded boutique hotel has redefined the word boutique. In just a short time, it has become popular with celebrities throughout Thailand and abroad. Na Nirand is a perfect place for those looking to impress their loved ones. The setting is so unique, it is a place now so sought after for either wedding engagements, photoshoots, wedding anniversaries or romantic opportunities.

Chiang Mai is a popular city, and after being here a few days, the Na Nirand Romantic Boutique Hotel was a brilliant place to catch up on my work and my rest. The remote and private access to the riverfront overlooking the Ping River was wonderful. It was a quiet and a stunning place to appreciate the flora and fauna of what Thailand is famous for. It is also an opportunity to experience what the locals do and how they live.

Reception & Hotel Grounds

In entering the reception area I was greeted by a beautiful teaser of what was to come. I was taken back by the staff uniform which was refreshing to see. The outfits were inspired by the era of King Rama V. Na Nirand Romantic Boutique Hotel has 6 buildings which are designed in the half wood local Lanna colonial style. The 45 guest rooms are all non-smoking and have a private balcony. I loved this because I could hide away and soak up the classic but warm interior design.

When I walked around the ground I was amazed by to the outdoor setting which was breathtaking, I was greeted by a massive one-hundred-year-old tree at the end of the pool. Throughout my stay, I could not help ponder, reflect and glare at how beautiful this natural iconic symbolic tree was. As for anyone staying here, it is a brilliant place to take shots both day and night. The swimming pool was wonderful to swim in and soak up this romantic resort.

Romantic Lanna Grand Deluxe Room

Me and my family stayed at two Romantic Lanna Grand Deluxe rooms. The interior designs were adorned with local handicrafts such as local Lanna handwoven cloths, murals and unique furnishing. The rooms were warm, simple and boasted ample examples of timeless elegance. I am a big fan of vintage colonial-inspired tiles, so it was lovely to see these being used throughout the resort as well as my bathroom. There was plenty of storage space within the suites and the huge beds were super comfortable and the bed linen was soft and cosy. Just lying in this room was so romantic and relaxing.

The unique Lanna style teak house is a must-see and is the perfect area to exhibit small meetings, pre-wedding photography sessions or engagement parties. My two children loved this area, especially where they could watch YouTube let alone read a book.

The Spa had a two treatment room area which provided a warm, peaceful and natural ambience in the outdoor zone. The Spa had products from HARNN, which is a luxury Thai brand. I enjoyed my massage which was brilliant. The dedicated spa area was a wonderful added feature to a memorable stay here at Na Nirand Romantic Boutique Hotel. The staff asked the right questions and served my specific needs. I would recommend getting treatment here with your partner.

TIME Riverfront Cuisine & Bar

The TIME riverfront Cuisine & Bar has to be located in one of the most beautiful settings regarding a riverfront location. The restaurant is right next to the Ping River and the interior design is inspired by an industrial vintage style with a timeless charm and elegance ambience to it.

For to outside guests, the TIME Riverfront Cuisine & Bar offers fusion inspired dishes that cater both for the western clients alongside the locals. I chose to dine here during lunchtime and the food was fresh and the presentation was excellent.

It was lovely to be able to look directly outside of the restaurant and look at all the local herbs grown here which were used within the dishes. Make sure you take the time to understand and learn about the core ingredients used within the Thai cuisine. They do offer cooking lessons, but I didn’t have the time on this occasion, maybe my next visit.

High Tea is trending around the globe and in regards to what nation you are visiting, I am loving how the historical luxury concept has made a big comeback. No matter where I am, the definition of high tea was being taken to another level, and here at Na Nirand Romantic Boutique Hotel, I was left gagging for more. With a location such as this, I highly recommend anyone experiencing this. Just take a look at what I ate.

Conclusion

I met the owner Dr. Poti Chao, who explained to me that his mission was to redefine the word boutique. Dr.Poti Chao went onto explain that the concept of boutique hotels over many years has lost its real impact. However thanks to Na Nirand Romantic Boutique Hotel it offered an even greater and more relaxing unique experience. This is a hotel that offers a sense of privacy and is a true retreat and gives you that peaceful stay. Na Nirand Romantic Boutique Hotel is unique in location, atmosphere and décor, it is a hotel that is full of romance even if you’re not seeking it. For those visiting Chiang Mai, the location is in the heart of the city, but you would never know because from the moment you entered Na Nirand Romantic Boutique Hotel. I loved it so much I actually never left it.

Chiang Mai is the largest city in mountainous Northern Thailand. Tucked away in a secluded road in one of Chiang Mai’s centuries-old communities, not far from the Ping river, is a luxury boutique hotel called Puripunn Baby Grand Boutique Hotel. Yes, that is quite a mouth full for a hotel name. This boutique hotel has a total of 30 rooms and was built in a contemporary Lanna Oriental architectural style, inspired by traditional homes from the region.

Reception

I arrived by taxi and the first thing I noticed was the secluded garden setting which was stunning and is a clear message of a place of peace, tranquillity and pure luxury. At the main entrance was a large open patio with a gorgeous pillowed lounge in the middle, it was a beautiful welcome to the Puripunn. This hotel was saturated with fresh roses throughout and the attention to detail regarding décor, interior design and ambience are why the Puripunn Baby Grand Boutique Hotel keeps being awarded as one of the top hotels to stay in Chiang Mai. They are proud of it looking at the multiple awards on display in the reception area.

Swimming Pool

I arrived in Chiang Mai in August and this is the monsoon season, most days are hot and humid with the occasional shower. In this hot weather there nothing better then a nice swim and the Puripunn has a lovely secluded pool in a beautiful garden setting. In the middle of the pool was the Jacuzzi and this area was covered from the sun, which is great in the soaring heat of Chiang Mai.

Spa – The Sala

It was lovely to see a professional dedicated spa area which smelt and looked fantastic. The environment sets the right tone regarding wellness. I chose two treatments the first being, a 90-minute Puripunn aroma massage which was wonderful. This massage began with a nice hot bowl which was used to clean my feet alongside some aroma steamed smells. When I laid faced down to get my massage, I loved the roses being my viewpoint during the massage. The treatment was professionally done and I felt wonderful and relaxed.

The second 90-minute treatment I chose was then aroma oil massage with a herbal hot compress. The combination of the oils alongside the herbal hot compress released much of my muscle tension. During my 3 months of travelling with various modes of transport, my body and back got very stiff. Hence why I recommend everyone to pamper themselves whilst here in Thailand. It certainly makes my travel experience more tolerable. There are always cheaper options on the high streets or in the back alleys, but nothing is more alluring and enticing as Spa treatments such as this in which the environment matches the professional service. To avoid missing out, make sure to book in advance.

Restaurant

The restaurant setting was lovely and I adored the concertina doors overlooking the garden. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The dishes were big portions and lots of fresh produce was used. There were plenty of choices on the menu and the restaurant targets guests from all around the world. I had a prawn cocktail as a starter and it was the best entrée dish I have had, no wonder it was called herbs of a thousand island dressing.

The children’s choices were excellent too. The beverages were lovely presented. If you can’t be bothered venturing out to eat, the value for money here was second to none.

Family Suite – Colonial Inspired Décor

My room was on the first floor and walking up the wooden stairs I was greeted by a long narrow tiled corridor which was wonderful. At the end of this corridor, I was welcomed by a stunning two bedroom boutique suite, it was the icing on the cake. This dedicated family room easily hosts a family of four. The décor, layout and ambience were the reasons I hardly left this suite during my stay. The two rooms were separated by open door shutters which were so lovely. The beds were super cosy and the artwork alongside the furniture made it very relaxing. There were plenty of charging areas for my technology and there was a dedicated working desk. I liked how the fridge and TV were behind a wooden door so that whenever I felt I wanted a clean slick room, I could hide all my clutter behind closed doors including the TV.

The separate room was brilliant for the children to play and have a place where they could create their own fantasy playground. There were double door shutters opening up to a balcony. This balcony had chairs and also a nice bench to enjoy views overlooking the garden and pool area. It was the perfect setting to take in Chiang Mai’s hidden treasures, especially hearing the very loud frogs at night, this was nature at its best.

Bathroom

I adored the bathroom area. It had its own pair of shutters when opened overlooked the rest of my suite or when closed shut everyone out. The bath was deep, wide and long, making it very comfortable to soak the day away. The green-tiled décor added the perfect setting for colonial living. The separate shower and toilet were good for added privacy.

My stay was enhanced with fluffy towels and fresh roses. The Puripunn understands perfectly what is needed for a luxury stay.

Breakfast

Weather permitting breakfast is a part outdoor part indoor affair. Some part of the breakfast, mainly the eggs were cooked outside in the lovely garden and also some other food was on display here. The forbidden fruits were my favourite, I am referring to a wide selection of high tea cakes, with the banana cake my favourite. They were freshly made daily and wonderful with a nice iced coffee. I liked the option of freshly made eggs to my liking, and this was one of the reasons I soaked up as much breakfast time here as possible.

The fruits in Thailand are wonderful and the way they were presented, including the love heart shape watermelon, is why my children ate so well. An unusual touch was the cherry tomatoes and the green and black olive options, this was refreshing to have. Coming from Europe it was nice to eat some of these after many weeks without. In observing other international guests, I could see breakfast was a success and the service was excellent.

Conclusion

The more I experience the world of smaller boutique hotels the less I want to return to my middle-class way of life. Thailand is a culture where people serve with a giving heart. Nothing is too much to ask or too much of an effort, especially at the Puripunn Baby Grand Boutique Hotel Chiang Mai. In speaking to the owner, this luxury lifestyle they have created is a passion and art of giving and serving. During my stay, I observed the staff building a very personal rapport with house guests. I noticed that the average guest stays at the Puripunn at least several days, some even a week. The Puripunn Baby Grand Boutique Hotel has its competition in Chiang Mai, but nothing comes close enough to its award-winning approach of the luxury stay. This is why I would return here on my next visit to Chiang Mai.
