Packaging

The box was way bigger than I was expecting as I hadn’t previously seen any dimensions of the product. In terms of the unboxing experience, there wasn’t much of one. It was just like when you are unboxing your new TV or large tech item. No complaints but no standout experience.

Style

Combining sleek design with patented airSOUND™ technology, the BAR A60 is carefully crafted from engineered wood with a matt finish, making it a great choice of audio for a stylish home. I loved the way it looked on my kitchen counter and have since decided to keep it there! It would have looked great as part of my home cinema set-up but for me, it’s all about the music.

Easy set-up

With a one-step set-up, the BAR A60 can be set-up in minutes. Only one optical cable is required to connect the soundbar and the television. There is no need for any additional equipment, wiring or adjustment. The ease at which everything got connected and functional was refreshing and satisfying.

Performance

Orbitsound’s patented airSOUND technology is something I wanted to experience as I’d heard so much about it from previous exposure to Orbitsound’s products. Utilising the latest Bluetooth technology, the subwoofer connection features an optimised digital bandwidth to achieve greater range, higher speed (lower latency) and zero interference with Bluetooth performance.

Connectivity

The BAR A60 supports aptX and lossless Bluetooth, meaning you can connect to any Bluetooth device for high quality streaming within seconds. Legacy devices can be connected using the 3.5mm jack input. Also, offering an NFC enabled device to the front of the soundbar causes the BAR A60 to power up and connect instantly for one-touch, menu free streaming.

Conclusion

I may not be using the speaker and sub woofer for their main use (music only) but I have to say that my experience of this speaker set-up has given me a great insight in to what to expect int arms of quality when I spend 399 GBP on a sound system. I can’t image getting anything better than this for the same price.

Penny have taken the world by storm in the last few years. With endorsement from some of YouTube’s biggest stars such as Casey Neistat and Ben Brown, Penny Boards are now a household name in the world of YouTube and people of all ages. Last week, I got my hands on Penny’s 27 inch Jammin’ board and I’m going to give you my honest thoughts on it.

The Jammin’ fade pattern board usually retails for 119.99 (Now at 89.99) which is the higher price point if you compare it to other penny-style boards. The real question here is; Should you pay more for a legitimate Penny board, or should you just go and buy a knock off?

I’ll start of by saying that the Jammin’ fade pattern was not my first choice. It wasn’t even my 4th choice! As I went through the shop scanning for the board I wanted, they were all sold out! It was very frustrating as I ended up with a board that I didn’t desperately want.

I spent a few days skating it around the town of different ground types and at different times during the day. This allowed me to ride it when no-one was around, but also when I had to weave in and out of people in the street. A good test for agility.

Technical Details

Wheels and Bearings

How It Rides – Verdict

I think it’s important to note that this board doesn’t work like a long board, nor a skateboard. It has almost made a class for itself. I would say its right in the middle of the two.

For the most part, I was able to skate on any terrain and running your wheels over little stones never tripped me up or caused any problem (extremely helpful). Something I will mention is that skating on a slope is where the board struggles. I’m not talking about going up or downhill, but when the road is sloping to the left or right. It’s an odd feeling but the board slides to the side and causes you to feel like you’re about to fall off. When you’re going pretty fast, this is a worry.

I also took the board out during the rain and immediately regretted it. I couldn’t keep my feet from slipping off with every tiny movement! The blame for this could certainly be placed on myself as I haven’t purchased the grip tape to go with the board.

Riding the Penny Board is just like riding a skateboard/longboard blend. I don’t need to explain much more than that.

Modifications

As I mentioned earlier, the Jammin’ pattern wasn’t my first choice at all. As time went on, I really started regretting choosing this pattern. This was just a personal thing. There is no doubt it looks pretty cool, but it just wasn’t for me.

In light of this, I decided to take things into my own hands and re-colour the board. I took some black plastic spray paint and did my thing. By placing tape in strategic places, I was able to create a pattern on the board while modifying the whole theme.

Let me introduce you to the Black Rasta (That’s what I named it). I think the black board with the red wheels just looks so nice! Not to mention the rasta underside and red ‘P’.

Needless to say, I was extremely happy with this change.

I now skate with the penny board everyday and am now even taking it abroad with me to skate around the huge airport in Houston!

Conclusion

So… Should you buy a legitimate Penny or a knock-off?

There is no question. Buy a real Penny.

Why? Well, it’s in the hardware, the materials and the quality. Each piece of the board is made to create  smooth ride today, tomorrow, next week and next year! A real Penny will last. Buying an illegitimate board will just result in something breaking prematurely and you’ll be left board-less.

It’s worth the money if you value longevity of use. Plus you can also change the colour if you want to!

Polar Balance is more than a smart scale. Hook it up with a Polar activity tracker and the free Polar Flow health and fitness app and make it simple to manage what you eat and how you exercise. I managed to get hold of one of these Smart Scales and the following will both describe the features and provides you with my own opinion from personal experiences and testing.

Features

Advanced Activity Goal

This provides a personalised daily activity goal to help you reach your goal weight, automatically updated and displayed on the wrist unit. This is a feature I’ve really only been using casually as weight loss isn’t my aim. I am currently training for a marathon and so I’m really just interested in seeing how my weight changes during this training.

Having used this feature for about 2 months now, I can say that it could be the single most impressive feature depending on your aims. If your goal is to lose weight, the Activity Goal couldn’t be easier to check and is also created to measure with pinpoint accuracy. When seen online through Polar’s website, you can track your weight, make notes, add food eaten and be right on top of your progress. Visually and physically effective.

Weight Trend

Follow your weight trends via the Polar Flow web service and app. Learn how your weight changes over time, and how your everyday actions and habits affect it. I mentioned this briefly in the last paragraph but it really does deserve its own. For me, this feature is very pleasing for my mind as I can visually see all of my hard work and commitment displayed perfectly on a screen. It also serves as a great motivational boost for me as I’m able to see my improvement almost immediately.

Body Mass Index (BMI)

Follow your body mass index (BMI) in the Polar Flow web service and app. See your progress and get the motivation you need to effectively manage your weight. At this point, most of us have had a BMI reading as it has been talked about for years now as being a way to broadly measure your physical health. Over time, you’ll have to weight yourself on a special BMI scale or do some crazy maths to figure it out yourself.

This feature isn’t necessarily amazing and unique, but it’s certainly convenient and trustworthy. If the scales didn’t have this feature, the product would certainly lose a valuable feature.

Multiple Users

Weighs the whole family. The scale can be used by up to 10 different people. I was personally unable to test this to see if a full 10 people could use it, but I’m just going to trust that it can! I only tested it with three other people and it worked just fine for each person and an individual. Couldn’t ask for more than that! It’s just good to know that if you were to go in with some of your roommates or flatmates, you could all use it basically as your very own personal set of scales.

Compatible Products

The all-new Jaguar F-PACE is a performance crossover designed and engineered to offer the agility, responsiveness and refinement that all Jaguars are renowned for, together with interesting dynamics and everyday versatility.

MenStyleFashion had the change to experience the new F-PACE for two days to see what it was capable of on various terrains and different driving styles. This is our technical but most experiential thoughts of the car.

Developed using Jaguar’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture, the all-new F-PACE combines purity of line, surface and proportion with F-TYPE-inspired features such as the powerful rear haunches, fender vents and distinctive tail light graphics. All of which combine to give the car a feeling of speed even when stationary.

The engine is a 380PS supercharged V6 which had great promise and hype in the time before driving it. Elements such as slender full-LED headlights, forged 22-inch wheels and short front overhang actually made it through from the original drawing of the car all the way through to the final product. This is something that rarely happens in car production.

The F-PACE seats five occupants in absolute comfort. The interior is a perfect blend of premium materials and finishes, detailing, luxuries such as heated, electrically-reclining rear seats, and cutting-edge technologies including the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system and 12.3-inch HD virtual instrument cluster.

The Press Trip in The Cotswolds

On the first evening, we were invited to have dinner with the Jaguar team and get to understand the car more thoroughly by talking with some of Jaguar’s big players. Just like last time at the BMW 760Li launch in Munich, we sat next to arguably the most important person in the production of this car, Ian Callum.

We talked for a good hour before he retired for the night and I distinctly remember what he said about the F-PACE:

“By remaining absolutely true to our design principles the all-new F-PACE is immediately recognisable as a Jaguar. It offers all of the interior space you would expect – and more – but because of our disciplined approach to surfaces, proportions, and purity of line, we have designed what I consider to be the most balanced, most attractive vehicle in its class”

Before I get into what it feels like to drive, I will mention one thing, however strange it may be. The boot/trunk on this car is huge. Seriously huge. Easily the biggest boot I’ve seen on a car of any size. If you’re a golfer, you could fit 10 golf bags in there. If you’re a football coach, you could fit 6 full bags of footballs in there. If you’re a mathematician, the volume is 650 Litres! All of this without compromising comfort and leg-room inside. Truly amazing. Anyway, back to what it’s like to drive.

When you get into the car you feel powerful. You almost feel like it’s going to growl at you as soon as you press the start engine button. The quiet roar of the V6 engine begins and you put the car into drive (we were driving the automatic). Side note: how cool is this gear selector?

The location for the drive was deep in the Cotswolds and I was given around 2 hours of solid driving time on differing terrains and speeds. As I cruised along the motorway section, I really found the car to be extremely smooth and well-balanced. However, as I entered village settings with sharp turns and lots of braking, the car felt overly heavy and sluggish which you can almost expect from an SUV. I was told that the car was actually the lightest in its class compared to the Porsche Macan and other competitors. Bearing this in mind, there had to be another reason why the car felt this way during these manoeuvres. The answer was in weight transfer.

The power of the F-PACE is all found in the back of the car. When the time comes to break to to turn, the power/weight transfers accordingly. So when going straight and then braking, the weight move fairly quickly to the front of the car making it feel really heavy. On turns, this feels like a lot of body roll. It was just something I had to get used to at first.

It’s fairly easy to figure out that the performance of the car is impressive and will certainly be at the focus and praise of most reviews out there. So it should be! But I found another aspect of the car to be far more impressive and actually far more likely to convince me to purchase this car. Technology.

Technology

The tech displayed and featured in this car is nothing short of amazing. The car has the capability to connect with your GPS apps and determine your location before you even get into the car. For example, if you enter your destination into your phone on the way to the car, the car will update its own GPS to match the destination and will be ready to go as soon as you get in.

With four cameras located at each corner of the car, the system can piece together the 4 images and create of full 360 degree birds eye view of the car in real-time. This way, you know exactly how far from the curb you are and you know exactly how much space you have between you and that rock you usually can’t see. It’s an incredibly helpful piece of tech that looks bloomin’ amazing on the display.

I’ll now move onto the heads up display. This Touch Pro System has been developed in-house and is visually customisable just like your own smartphone. The single most impressive feature of the in-car technology is your ability to take the map from the centre screen and move it to your cluster display located right where your odometer and fuel gauge are. As well as looking amazing, it’s extremely practical and effective. It also allows your centre display to be open to control music or any other integrated apps.

A Notable Tech Mention

Something I hadn’t seen in a car until this day was sign recognition. Using the car’s cameras, the computer was able to recognise speed limit signs on the road. This made me very aware of the speed limit on each road. The steering wheel also provides you the option to set a limiter on the car to only drive as fast as the limit for the road. Although this option isn’t the most fun, it’s super helpful on a no-rush Sunday drive.

Coming in at around £40,000, the F-PACE is a car that you’ll truly enjoy if you like tech-filled transport and ease of travel whilst looking like a boss! It’s undoubtedly a beautiful car inside and out and will have no problem capturing the SUV market. It’s no surprise that sales projections see this SUV being Jaguars best-selling vehicle ever.

Summertime is calling and it’s asking if you’re ready for the warm weather. Naturally, this means stocking up on a few new pairs of shoes and there are some very attractive trends to take advantage of for the upcoming season. Here are five shoes that no man should be caught without if they plan on having their feet look fashionable.

Brogues

Every man needs a quality pair of dress shoes and no style is more in vogue than the ever-classic brogue. The decorative perforations add just enough extra style without being overly ostentatious. In particular, you could look for a pair of brogues in tan, which will make you look put-together without being overly flashy.

Sandals and Socks

We never actually thought we’d see the day where we’d say this, but socks and sandals are okay this season. You read that correctly. Slip-Ons

One of the biggest shoe trends for 2016 is undoubtedly the slip-on and, in particular, the espadrille. The canvas uppers and jute rope soles make them the ideal casual shoe for summer as they’re both breathable and lightweight. As opposed to summer loafers or boat shoes, espadrilles won’t make your feet sweat, helping you avoid the dreaded nastiness that can come with summer feet. Lyst’s shoes edit points out that, this summer, you definitely need a pair of espadrilles alongside the other essentials (which they mention as sandals, flip-flops, and boat shoes.

Desert Boots

Few shoes are as effortlessly stylish and versatile as the dress boot, and no boot is more ready for summer than the appropriately named desert boot. According to this GQ article, the original boot was designed for the desert campaigns of World War II and was so rugged and reliable that its popularity has continued 75 years later. The desert boot looks great with just about any outfit. Whether it’s a sharp suit or a pair of denim jeans, this is the only real option for boots in the summer.

Running Shoes

Here’s another blast from the past that we never expected to rear it’s head again. You may have heard that “dad fashion” is the new normcore for 2016 and, well, the combo of running shoes and jeans (à la Seinfeld) is actually a popular look for the season. With ’90s nostalgia at an all-time high, there are definitely worse trends that could resurface. Whether it’s a pair of shoes from a staple athletic brand (Nike, ASICS) or a high-profile fashion designer (Michael Kors, Yohji Yamamoto), you’d be hard-pressed to beat a pair of terrific trainers.

It all started in early 2015 when Alvieri’s founder was looking for an affordable elegant watch for daily wear. He spent a lot of time trying to find it, but unfortunately, found none that impressed him. Despite countless affordable brands selling elegant watches, what was interesting to him was that none of them came up with a unique design. Since then, he was determined to make one that has a distinctive look.

While looking for the design inspiration, he remembered the beauty of the sculptures in Florence, a beautiful city in Italy that he travelled three years earlier. Thereupon, he was inspired to create a watch face that features a lively and three-dimensional look.

Before embarking on the design, Alvieri did a little survey. They found that most people love simple and clean designs so they felt it was essential to bring the liveliness of sculptures into the face of the watch without being too complicated and cluttered.

With this in mind, initially, they tried to revive the convex dials which were popular in the 1960s. However, they thought those convex dials seemed not lively enough. To improve liveliness, Alvieri came up with the idea of making a dial that has two parts-the outer convex rings for the hour markers and the flat inner dial.

Talk about unique yet elegant! Alvieri watches feature a convex hour track on the dial which comes alive when the light hits it at an angle. The dial also displays a beautiful guilloche pattern which reflects light in a myriad of different ways. They look oh so impressive! They are made of high-quality materials. Hmmm sounds expensive? Nope. They are affordable.

Manufacturing

You’ll see from the images above that it was to be a difficult decision choosing one that I liked most. Despite the difficulty, I decided to order the Semi Brogue Oxfords in Oxblood. This colour actually ended up making me very satisfied with my choice. When talking about shoes of this calibre, it goes without saying that each shoe is built with the finest leathers, sculpted by experts and designed by people with a genuine passion.

I received the shoes in the mail in a very well designed shoe box which came with spare laces and your standard branded leaflets and care books.

I decided to take the shoes on a real test drive at the BMW 760 Li global launch in Munich where I was to be standing up and walking around for hours on end. What better test is there to give shoes that this? I will say the first feature that impressed me were the individual bags that are provided in the box. This made travelling with the shoes in a suitcase worry-free as I knew they wouldn’t get damaged or scratched by other items in the bag.

I have to be honest and say that I was partially dreading putting the shoes on in the first place. Basically every pair of shoes I’ve worn have served to be the single most uncomfortable thing of my evening. I attend quite a few evening events which require dress shoes to go with a suit and I ALWAYS leave with blisters and a real inability to walk after! That shouldn’t be the case! You now understand why I was dreading putting them on.

As I slipped the shoes on in my hotel room, something occurred to me. They went straight on. No shoe horn, no struggle, no friction burn on my thumbs or fingers, nothing. In amazement I looked at the shoe I hadn’t yet put on and saw that the foot hole was cut significantly wider than other shoes I own. Sons of London likely did this to solve the problem I just mentioned.

Once both shoes were on, I then needed to test their walk-ability. What usually happens during this test is the part of the shoe on top of the first join of your big toe creases in and pokes your foot. I worn some shoes that even felt like they were stabbing me! To my surprise and delight, the shoes’ crease didn’t touch my foot and it was at this point that I knew tonight was NOT going to be a painful, crippling experience but rather an experience where I actually enjoy wearing the shoes!

From my positive experience that evening, I vowed only to keep these shoes for very special occasions. I want to treat these shoes with the care and thought that they were designed to provide me. Plus, I had a lot of high ranking BMW designers compliment them!

As we know the weather can hugely inconsistent, so shirts are the best bet. Brands such as Good For Nothing Clothing and Moss Bros offer a could selection of lightweight, spring shirts.

Accessories

We finish the outfit off with a pair of sunglasses. Whether they are Ray Ban, Oakley’s or Police, it is completely down to shapes of faces, hair styles and outfit choices. Ray Bans are ideal for for both casual and smart outfits offering the finishing touches to an outfit choice. Once you have the brand, you can also choose from colouring in terms of lenses and frames. Never underestimate how much a simple accessory can finish off your entire outfit.

Located in the luxury heart of London, Mayfair, The Punchbowl is uniquely positioned both physically and in their market. A pub is certainly something you don’t find in Mayfair. I think you’d find more super car dealerships than pubs in this area. Here are my thoughts on The Punchbowl and why I urge you to go and experience it for yourself.

The first thing you notice when walking toward The Punchbowl is the traditional pub front (Seen below). From the outside, it looks like a small, oddly situated pub but when you walk in, your preconceptions are flipped on their head.

When you walk in, you get mixed signals. You can’t tell whether you’re in a country pub or in a restaurant. It’s almost split right down the middle which works in a way I hadn’t really thought about until writing this review. What is the one feeling you want to feel when you enter a restaurant? For me it’s to feel warm and welcome. This is exactly the feeling you get walking into The Punchbowl and it’s thanks to the warm country pub you are exposed to first. It’s almost genius.

You could say, at this point in the visit, this is just like your average pub! What’s the real difference? Well let me take you upstairs.

Can you see this difference now? Yes, you’re seeing it right. No, I haven’t put the wrong images into the article. This is actually what the upstairs restaurant area looks like. It’s almost like you’ve put the most luxurious hotel tea room in London on top of a pub and joined them together. Experiencing this unique difference first hand showed me that The Punchbowl are doing something different, something fairly brave. A truly luxury pub.

The Food

Now for the part, you all want to hear about the food. I mean it’s the whole reason you’d go to a restaurant.

For my starter, I ordered the following:

West coast crab on toast, fennel, pink grape fruit, watercress, caper vinaigrette, crab aioli £11.00

For me, there was a bit too much salad on it all, but that’s just down to personal preference. The amount of crab I got made up for that in my book. If my main course was anything like this starter, it was going to be spectacular.

For my main, I ordered the warmest and most filling meal I could imagine. I even posted it on our Instagram.

250g dry aged fillet of beef, triple cooked chips, watercress & shallot salad, pepper corn sauce £29.50 (28 day Hung South Devon beef).

The succulence of the meat completely took me aback and I couldn’t believe what my mouth was tasting. The steak was so perfectly aged and seasoned that it really provided me with an eating experience I hadn’t had before. To make things even better, the chips were REAL chunky British chips. It’s probably the most simple dish you could imagine, but sometimes, the simple things done well can’t be beaten.

How you wrap up a meal really sets the tone for your whole meal, so I was highly anticipating dessert.

Lemon posset, citrus shortbread, raspberry £7

I had a few possets in my time so I feel like I am able to provide an opinion of some value to you. This posset was very creamy which is something I prefer. I know others who enjoy the strength of the dish to be in the lemon, but for me, the creamier, the better. The slight hint of lemon provided the most perfect sweetness and tang to it all.

After leaving The Punchbowl, I proceeded to return to the Milestone Hotel and told their very patient staff about my experience at The Punchbowl.

It was truly a unique experience and I’d certainly recommend The Punchbowl to anyone who wants a pint, a good meal or even a fancy dinner evening!

It’s not every day you get to experience the global launch of a limited edition luxury BMW 760 Li and THEN get to go on a 7-hour road trip from Munich to Geneva in one! Well, for MenStyleFashion this became a reality and here is what it was like.

MenStyleFashion was invited to the global launch of the BMW 760 Li in which the collaborated with Montblanc, this launch is all part of the centenary year for BMW. Upon arrival into Munich, a chauffeur took me to my personal 7 Series and proceeded to provide me with a mini-tour of the interior gadgets and features. Let me list just a few of these features:

1. You can change the colour of the interior lights
2. Every chair is also a complex massage chair
3. You can lie down
4. There are two sunroofs
5. You can control the media system by gesturing with your hands
6. The car drives and parks itself
7. The car key has a touch screen

Trust me when I say that these are merely a few of the features!

Launch Event

I arrived at the hotel and immediately began to get suited up for the big launch event/dinner. As I left the hotel, I was provided with yet another 7 Series car with a personal driver who was to transport me to the event in serious style.

I’ll fast forward to the dinner where I was sat next to none other than Carsten Pries. Carsten is Head of Product Management for the M Automobiles and BMW Individual. Put simply, he is one of BMW’s most influential and successful people. It’s funny because I have introduced Carsten by his position in BMW but what I really feel like doing is talking about him as a person. It was to my surprise that Carsten and I talked for a solid hour about his life, our mutual interest in golf and his passions in life. Our conversation was genuine and it revealed a lot to me about what it’s like to love your job.

You can even see me talking to Carsten on the front row, third in from the top!

At one point in our conversation, I asked him what he is passionate about outside of his job and his reply surprised me. “For me, my life in and out of work is all one. I love my life, I’m passionate about my life and my life is BMW. I wouldn’t have it any other way”. It wasn’t until the day after he said this to me that I really appreciated and understood where he was coming from. His passion and love for BMW doesn’t last until it’s time to clock out at 5 pm and doesn’t start at 8 am when it’s time to start again. Rather, BMW is his life’s passion, his life’s work and therefore BMW is part of him just as much as he is a part of BMW.

It is THIS level of passion and loyalty that tells me more about BMW than any car could. It’s safe to say that seeing this first hand and hearing his story first hand has truly made me someone who would invest in a BMW car even at the young age of 25. I think it’s people like Carsten Pries that make BMW Automobiles that much more appealing.

BMW X Montblanc

It’s worth mentioning that Montblanc worked with BMW on designing a writing instrument to work in perfect harmony with the 760 Li. Pairing these two brands was genius and smart. My appreciation of Montblanc as a brand was only just starting to form something I now value and appreciate, but we’ll get to that later.

Road Trip

6 am came very fast the next day and it was now time to embark on a 7-hour road trip through southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland where I would fly back to London from Geneva. Each member of this road trip were given their very own BMW with a driver to make the journey as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. Little did I know that I would love this journey to its maximum. I was fortunate enough to be driven by not only a professionally trained BMW driver but also a man who also truly appreciates and values BMW in a way that extends further than clocking in and out.

Montblanc Watchmaking

En route to Geneva, we stopped in Villeret to become acquainted with the Jura Valley where Montblanc’s watchmaking history is rich and revealing. As we ate lunch we discussed the history of Villeret and Montblanc, which provided me with a great starting knowledge of the brand and the values it stands for. Take a look at the view we had for lunch.

After lunch, we took a tour around the building where we were educated and introduced to exactly how each time piece is made and perfected to create truly unique pieces. Again, after this tour, the one thing that impacted me the most was the passion the watchmakers have for their craft, their art and their life. It was nothing short of amazing.

As we made our way to the airport, I reflected on the last few days. Can you guess what stood out to me? Yes, the car was, and it will be one of the most spectacular luxury cars you’ll ever lay your eyes on. And yes, Montblanc’s design input in a way is the whole reason the car is as beautiful as it is. But what captured my thoughts and opinions were the people behind the brands. The way they work to create masterpieces in their craft and love the brand far further than protocol requires. They work harder, aim higher and produce better as a result.

The Milestone Hotel opened in the 1920’s and takes its name from the old cast iron milestone that stands outside and comprises three tall Victorian townhouses. The first of these townhouses, No 1 Kensington Court, has fine original features, including carved window frames and a black-and-white tiled floor. It sits on busy Kensington Road, near where it becomes Kensington High Street, with views of Kensington Park opposite. I even took the opportunity to walk around the area (mainly the park) and found that it was one of my favourite experiences in London.

In this article, I’m going to show you my experience of The Milestone Hotel and why I think it might just be London’s best hotel.

Jockey Room

Upon Arrival, I was greeted by extremely well trained staff and warm welcome. I had arrived far too early for my check-in so a few of the team gave me a tour of the hotel and provided me with the stories and rich history held within. After the tour, I was taken to the Jockey Room. This quaint bar area encapsulates everything horse racing and features intricate decor and a warm feel.

While I was in the Jockey Bar, I was approached by a member of staff who offered me a drink. After much deliberation, I decided to go with The Milestone Hotel’s most renowned drinking experience, The Milestone Old Fashioned. It was an experience I will remember for a very long time. The back story of what it takes to make such a drink fascinated me and the barman spend almost 40 minutes of his day explaining why he is passionate about cocktails and working at The Milestone. I was beginning to see a real pattern in the attitudes of the staff members, and it was an extremely positive one.

After my wonderful experience with the Old Fashioned, I was taken to room 101 where I was provided with a brief room tour by yet another proud and happy staff member.

The images you see below are of the features I thought important to showcase. I think the decor is of a unique taste and probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I truly feel I wouldn’t have experienced the hotel in the same way if the decoration was different. You make your own opinions, but understand that the staff and hotel experience are necessary in creating a fair evaluation.

Cheneston’s Restaurant

After a long day in London, I returned to the hotel just in time for dinner which I was to eat at Cheneston’s Restaurant where I was about to have not just one, but many unique first-time experiences. Located in a ultra-cosy corner of the hotel, this restaurant is easily the most cosy and relaxing dinner setting I’ve ever experienced. Take a look at my view form my seat below:

After the variety of complimentary bread and butters, it was time to order my starter. I chose to have the Duo of Irish and Scottish Smoked Salmon which was to be hand carved at my table. This was both a delicious and educational experience as the waiter explained some of the key differences between Irish and Scottish Smoked Salmon.

For my main course, I opted for the Gressingham Duck Breast which you can see below. It was perfectly cooked and tasted like heaven in my mouth. The duck almost melts in your mouth!

For dessert, I went for the Milestone’s speciality honeycomb ice cream. I’m not really an ice cream type of person but I took the recommendation of the waiter and was not disappointed. Whether you’ve had honeycomb ice cream before or not, I can assure you, this is the highest quality ice cream & honeycomb you’ll find.

Conclusion

I have experienced many highly rated hotels in London and all have strived to impress with one main thing. For the Shangri-La in the Shard, this is their superior view for example. The Milestone goes at it in a different way. The Milestone Hotel focuses on staff well-being and happiness by providing them with incredible training and even away days with the hotel owners! Every single staff member LOVED working there and it became the single most impressive thing about this hotel. I truly think The Milestone Hotel could be London’s best hotel.

Some might see ConSept as an exclusive market where entry is often only available to the rich. What inspired you to launch one of the world’s most luxurious concept stores?

While there are certainly high-priced pieces, ConSept works to all salaries, with in-store pieces as low as £25, but equally as high as £50,000, along with as much accessibility as possible—what is not available on the shop floor we work to supply via private orders and our concierge service. Nevertheless, what differentiates us is not our prices but our stock—our wide variety caters to our varied levels of clientele. One of our goals is to ensure each customer leaves the store with a smile on their face.

Unlike most concept stores around the world, we also focus on the new, up-and-coming designers, with quality and vision just as expressive and skilled as the usual, famous and typically expensive brands we are trying to stray from. We obviously feature the expensive brands, the well-known labels, but we also give young designers a platform to find their consumers, and provide consumers with a market to find new designers.

Is ConSept your main venture in the fashion industry?

Along with store, we also run a concierge company, S2 Concierge. As ConSept presents our clients with immense choice, S2 concierge takes care of their every day needs and requests. We know where to find the rare Hermès Birkin when a client needs it tomorrow or a limited edition collection of watches they’ve eyed a friend wearing. We specialize in the exclusive, making the unattainable attainable for those willing to pay for it.

Aside from S2, we also have another company that deals with real estate and project developments, along with smaller subsidies like S2 drinks. As our clients relocate across the world, we take care of their move, finding the house, handling the renovations, making it their dream environment. Like ConSept, S2 Design & Property grew organically from our clients’ needs.

How would you describe your own style?

“I have so much French in me, so I’d like to think it transfers over to my every day style. I also love street-wear, so I guess I’d call it French chic combined with London cool.” – Goran Svilar

“Sports and exercise are a big part of my life, so I think my personal style reflects that passion. I love designer trainers and I like to combine them with a smart shirt or jacket with a hoodie or polo-style T-shirt – always fitted, practically made-to-measure.” – Ali Samli

What are the must-haves for men looking to shop at ConSept?

While we are both well-dressed men, we have to admit that the guys have been slightly neglected so far. We are introducing men’s lines this autumn and are hoping to present some collections in the summer, however for the time being men can take care of their women, their houses, or their bars. Our Imperial Collection Vodka range and Fabergé collection both top the list, along with our favorite Grand Brulot – a 20-year-old cognac distilled with coffee. Aside from womenswear and official collections, we also sell personalized fragrances in partnership with Welton and unisex T-shirts featuring Jessica Rabbit and Alexander McQueen with an iconic “God Save McQueen” slogan – we can’t keep those on the rails.

What inspired your in-house fashion china? How did the idea for such fashionable mugs and plates come about?

While I’d like to take credit for it myself, I must give all the credit to Ali. The concept was developed through Ali and our in-house illustrator. The collection is produced with fine bone China in Stoke on Trent, as we follow a “Made in Britain” philosophy. Nevertheless, both my own and Ali’s background significantly came from dealings with fine bone china and porcelain. We’ve witnessed first-hand the art of china-making, both in serious patterns and then fun, fashionable patterns like our own collection.

Do you have any favorite designers?

I have a wide collection of favorite designers, and I certainly wouldn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. My tastes range from Ralph Lauren to Gucci, along with Alexander Wang, Rick Owens and Valentino, but I can also pair it with a Zara garment… just about everything is in my wardrobe. I must admit though that I am more of a brandiac… I think Ali might be more open-minded when it comes to fashion.

“I definitely have a soft spot for brands – I value their designs and the importance they often place on quality. At the same time though, I also love to wear new designers. Up and coming designers are often more unique, take more chances with accessories, silhouettes and so on. Nevertheless, I am very picky.” Ali Samli

We hear ConSept’s first anniversary is fast approaching. Any big plans?

It’s been a wonderful year. We always enjoy getting to know our clients, as well as thanking them for their immense love, care and support that has kept this company afloat. It’s also a great way to put our clients in touch with one another. For those who have to travel often or have just relocated to London, this gives them opportunity to meet interesting people, share experiences and meet people with similar tastes – all in all just widen their circle of friends. I imagine we will bring everyone together to celebrate our anniversary as well as each other.

Ciabattina Milano Pigments

The flip-flops use photo luminescent pigments produced by an Italian chemical company, a leader in its field, that uses pure raw materials with a special production process that guarantees a much higher efficiency and greater performance compared to pigments used by other producers. The uniqueness of the crystal structure and the chemical formulation of these pigments amplify the natural brightness of the crystals they contain. The photo luminescent pigments are waterproof; they do not loose luminosity under water or into any water-based formulation.
