As predicted by the media, the heat wave has finally come upon us. With the beach on our minds and a breeze making the curtains outside our window dance, we cannot help but start planning our summer outfits for next season.
Adam Brown, who launched his label Orlebar Brown only in 2007, has put together a collection inspired by the unique lifestyle of Monaco. Among the themes influencing the work which spans everything from swimwear to blazers, we find references to a couple of figures prominent in the city-state such as the yacht owner and the engineer working in a pit stop at the Monte Carlo Grand Prix.
The SS14 Collection
The colourful collection features a variety of shorts, V-necks, striped long-sleeves and accessories – all of them radiating a sense of la dolce vita. Our personal highlight was the original travel posters from the 1930s printed onto t-shirts and swimwear and the use of eye-catching colours such as ‘Chicane yellow, Riviera blue and Marshall orange’. In three words, we would say Orlebar Brown spring / summer 2014 is young, fun and celebratory without being pretentious. If the young label stays true to these values and keeps creating clothes as wearable as the ones we have seen at its presentation at LC:M, we predict major commercial success coming its way.
The only set-back at this moment is not already wearing one of those “cool-beyond-words” pair of shorts (this heatwave is not for the faint-hearted!). But there is always a next season. And thanks to Orlebar Brown, you can bet we’ll be prepared for that.
Expert Opinion
According to Gracie Opulanza – “Fashion is a tough business. Innovation is always crucial and playing it safe is never an option. Adam Brown, identifies that you can have great collections, but if you don’t present the whole package and story to a man. Your clothes will be left on the shelf. I know in my expert opinion this label is just going to set the trends more and more. And the only thing left standing will be the coat hangers. Listen to what Adam has to say about his collection“.
